Looking to get plastic surgery in San Diego?  If so, you are not alone!  There are many people each year who opt to get plastic surgery in San Diego.  There are many good, trained professionals out there who will perform whatever needs you have, from breast augmuntation to liposuction, as well as a number of other different procedures

When looking to get plastic surgery in San Diego, you may spend a lot of time and emotional energy.  Once you have made your decision, you then are faced with the question of which plastic surgeon in San Diego you are going to use.  There are a number of factors that will go into your decision.  You might get some type of referral, or a recommendation from someone you know.  The advertising the doctor uses may influence your decision too.  But what you really should do to make your decision is take consideration of the plastic surgeon in San Diego's qualifications and training

First off, you should check your doctor's Board Certification status.  You may not know this, but a doctor does not have to be board certified to perform plastic surgery in San Diego.  In most states, they only need a medical license.  So, you could have an E.R. doctor doing your facelift, or an OB/GYN performing your tummy tuck.  Definitely things you do not want!

There are some doctors who think that taking a weekend course or reading an article online gives them the qualification to perform some type of plastic surgery in San Diego.  This is why it is so important that you ask them if they are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery

You must make sure your plastic surgeon in San Diego has the following:

  • A medical degree from an accredited medical school
  • At least five years of supervised surgical training from a program that is accredited, and two of those years must be devoted exclusively to plastic surgery training
  • At least two years of plastic surgery practice after finishing their training
  • Successful completion of the written and oral plastic surgery board examinations
  • You may encounter a number of governing boards that have words like “cosmetic”, “plastic”, or “aesthetic” that sound legitimate, but there is only one that actually is legitimate, and that is The American Board of Plastic Surgery.  This is the only group recognized by The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).  When getting plastic surgery in San Diego, finding certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery should be number one on your list when looking for a doctor.  You will know that your doctor has been properly trained and prepared to give you the best surgical outcome.
